TITLE: Still loves me By Patrick McClure 03/23/06 |
|
And knows the real me
Yet still loves me
Knows the pain I’ve caused
because my words control me sometimes
not the other way around
and the sound of these comes out hurtfully
and at an elevated frequency
but unfortunately,
they may come out again
in fact, it’s almost a certainty
and I should just ask her now to forgive me for then
but when did this ever dissipated pain
or make the verbal rain less wet and driving, freezing
yet somehow, when that time comes, she’ll forgive me
She sees right through me
And knows the real me
Yet still loves me
Knows that I don’t always stand as a man
Instead cower from abuses with bland excuses
And allow laziness or apathy or all the above
To consume me, to beat me down,
Not ready to be a man
I know someday my hands will show years of work
Fingernails with dirt and a sweat-stained t-shirt
But for now that’s all clean, and I’m slouching on my couch
She sees right through me
And knows the real me
Yet still loves me
And perhaps more
because of the intimacy it brings
When two share dreams
And make mistakes, together
When a couple overdrafts their checking account
To buy a new duvet cover
Though they’re still sleeping on a borrowed twin mattress
Or a fear of failure that one carries
While the other pretends not to worry
Stand strong, don’t be scared
But they both know that what doesn’t show
On the outside, still binds them on the inside
