I can taste you dying.
I have observed you through pincered
eyelashes
as your passions ebbed and flowed
in seasonal tides
that brought you early to Winter’s yard.
I have seen anguished red hands of anger
becoming blind in caverns of addictive lusts,
watched you grope darkly
through labyrinths of desire
from pinnacles of innocence
to grovelling dependences.
Now, options closed,
you stare upwards to a blunt and bloody blade,
your neck held in the jaws of a guillotine anvil
counting time.
