TITLE: War of the Worldviews By Patrick McClure 11/29/05 |
|
We wage war against ourselves
our cause
proclaiming peace, Christ’s love
and infinite mercy
forgiveness and compassion
while simultaneously launching
verbal missiles, haughty
assumptions and stereotypes
while sitting in our pews
between hymns
in our Sunday’s finest
Collectively we build a front
An impenetrable wall
America, Christianity
We are the master-race
The master-religion as it were
So right and infallible no enemy
Shall triumph over us, our God
Needs us as foot soldiers
In the trenches
But we push buttons which commence
A war of the worlds, worldviews
Destroying the very creation
And civilization He once called Blessed,
Once died for under the singular banner
Love
And now, some say fight
Others don’t, yet more subtly,
Craftily, won’t allow citizenship
Ban homosexuals, pay less the
Woman
And set the autopilot controls on a
Middle-class existence
Eyes on the road, straight ahead
Lay down your weapons
Your tongues, actions and facial expressions
Which sever deeper, burn more painfully
And detonate on people groups worldwide
That look at us not as
Big-bully America, but as
Self-righteous and hypocritical
Christ-followers
Without the following
And arguably without the Christ
