TITLE: Truth-Trading By Patrick McClure 11/29/05 |
|
In a perpetual dialogue
Of wandering souls
Voices resonate loudly over
Radio waves, across magazine
And newspaper print
Television adds pictures to a
Rhetoric of life’s questioning
Fiction and poetry relate
Life-experience, every citizen
Sharing a common existence,
Utterly uncommon to the person
On their right or left
Physically and politically speaking
Yet each being was, and is
And will be
For some unnamed duration
All hints at, finds truths
Even if only one,
And we share these
Trade and collect them like
Baseball cards, coins, or Mickey Mouse figurines
Throughout life this dialogue
Resonates in our souls
Yet no one accumulates
The complete collection
Somewhere someone has
That collector’s edition
Mickey bobblehead
That ace of spades
Denying my royal flush
A decent full house instead
Leaves me yearning, seeking
I want that ace yet am
Confident, convinced that the
Royal Flush is impossible
Yet everyday I return to the table,
Watch the deck shuffle,
And slide in my chips,
Waiting for that Ace of Spades
