TITLE: Prodigal By vicki adams 09/05/05 |

Frittered my
Inheritance
Bought fake pearls and fools gold
Sought false worlds and lies told
Dancing with ‘angels of light’
I have choreographed my own confusion.
My choices led me here
Seeking relief from paper chains
I break them off to choose them again
I am reassured by their restriction.
I have
Glittered
Superficially
With dirty hands and downcast heart
Trodden down and torn apart
Standing with ‘angels of light’
I have adopted their identity.
But now, their fairy lights have faded
And party-weary
Worn and jaded
I fall down.
I have
Bartered
And fought
Trading my liberty for garments
That fall to ashes around me
Their opulence little more than illusion
I dress in Lies
Disguised as a prodigal.
So dare I turn and glimpse a view
From where I came, the path I knew?
Dare I trust enough to turn
And face the grace I didn’t earn?
