That Day
The crowd was angry that day as they followed Jesus up the hill. The jeered at Him, they threw stones at Him, they mocked Him and beat Him. As He carried that cross on His
bruised and bloody back, not a word did He utter. He stumbled, He fell but no one reached out to help, no one offered a hand. Through the pain, the suffering, the agony,
Jesus kept on climbing toward Golgotha, the hill where He would be crucified. What
were His thoughts on that dark day? Did He want to turn and run away? He knew this
day was going to come, He knew He would have to die for humanity. Once a King, now
a man suffering for the ones that turned their backs in disbelief.
The nails that pierced His hands and feet, He took them in place of you and me. Our
sin, our shame, our failures, our suffering, were on His shoulders as He climbed that hill.
What kind of love does Jesus have to give His life for me? As He hung on that
cross, gasping for breath, waiting for death, no anger , no bitterness did He feel, only a
love so pure, so great that it would last for an eternity. Even as He hung there, the
crowd still mocked and jeered, the soldiers gambled for His clothes, how the angels in
Heaven must have wanted to come and set Him free.
Alone, abandoned, even forsaken by His Father, He did not turn away. He knew this was the reason He was born, to die for you and me. As the day went on and the sky turned dark, Jesus took His last breath and said, It is finished. With His death, He gave life to all
who would believe. Death wasn’t the end; it was the beginning of everlasting life, of hope, and liberty. He gave it all, on that hill, nailed to that tree, His life, His love, His
heart for His Bride, you and me.
John 19:17 17 Carrying his own cross, Jesus went out to a place called The Place of the Skull, which in the Hebrew language is called Golgotha.
Acts 2:23 23 But God knew what would happen, and his prearranged plan was carried out when Jesus was betrayed. With the help of lawless Gentiles, you nailed him to a cross and killed him.
John 3:16-17
16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
