Asher and David were sitting at a coffeehouse congratulating themselves on their success.
As they did so Agent Oliver walked up to the table. Asher nodded, "Come sit. Shall I buy you something."
Oliver grinned,"Last time I remember you saying something like that, the glass had a Mickey in it."
David said,"Oh well, all's fair in love and war and that was war if not love. Besides that courier managed to explain himself to his boss and survived. "
Oliver said, "Actually I've come to ask for your help."
Asher said, "Why ours?"
Oliver said, "Because for this job, I'd prefer some help outside my organization."
Asher leaped to a conclusion,"You mean your doing counterintell? I thought you were a specialist-the 'best pickpocket in the OSS'"
Oliver said, "Well, yes. But I got a transfer-not on record of course-and I was told to seek your help."
David said,"In other words, you're on a molehunt. But I take it you want someone to think you're seconded to us again".
Oliver said, "Quite so. Quite so. The Cairo office is starting to get suspicious of the Dogwood ring. OSS-Istanbul has a remarkable faith in it. And won't release information about it's agents. "
Asher asked,"You think Chief Macfarland's dirty"
Oliver said,"No but he seems to be awfully naive. And I am supposed to do this job outside the Istanbul office for that reason. "
"Excuse me", asked David,"Are we supposed to know about the 'Dogwood Ring'?"
Oliver said,"I suppose it can't be avoided. For the past year OSS-Istanbul has been getting a remarkable amount of quite useful information from a network of highly placed Axis VIPS. So highly placed in fact that it is difficult to believe that all of them are loyal to us. And yet Chief Macfarland is taking frightfully few precautions."
Asher said, "So Cairo is asking for us to help in your molehunt...".
"Quite", said Oliver.
"And in the meantime", continued Asher,"Everyone thinks you're assigned to help steal more messages from more couriers..."

Cairo was the chief Allied headquarters for the Meditteranean Theater of Operations. As such it would have had oversight over OSS-Istanbul.
The Haganah(Asher and David's service) of course were semi-independant and kept their own council. Which was why Agent Oliver wished for their help.
