Hebrews 13:6
So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?"
The frailty in human nature brings out our worst fears. We fear the unknown. We fear history repeating itself. We fear failure and this inhibit fear leashes us to reach newness. The word ‘new’ according to the dictionary means: - ‘something that has been just found, discovered, not previously experienced or encountered and never existed before.’
Every generation has something new to discover. Fear prevents any level of newness in our lives. We are afraid of discovering, afraid of exploring, afraid of inventing and afraid of reaching beyond the stars. We work out the outcome negatively and in the process we tie our hands from not trying at all. I am sure in every age of mankind, the standards of newness took inventors to greater exploits. Every exploit achieved extended the borders for a new frontier to be discovered. We searched out the land and found the earth is round and not flat. We called the sky the limit but as the age progressed and man conquered the sky, we began to use the sky as a base to go further. It helped us to reach for the stars. In all of this conquering, man has emerged beyond the sky, beyond the stars, beyond galaxies, beyond the Milky Way and still searching the vastness for newness.
The kingdom of God is also in search of newness daily. The kingdom of darkness is infiltrating the advancement of new territory in the world to use as weapons against God’s kingdom. If we are slack in attaining newness, we will be accountable for allowing darkness to prevail. What we discover by the power of the Holy Spirit daily allows us to grow deeper in Christ. Yet, whatever depth we search out spiritually is just the foundation for our children. We are purposed to break through borders for greater spiritual insight and exploration. With the rising of each day, there is potential for achieving a new milestone. Seize the opportunity to be a visionary of newness in Christ.
The deterring factor in the search for newness is fear. If we continue in a fearful walk, we will never walk freely. Each of us has a part to do in the present day to enhance the kingdom of God. Our part will claim new territory away from darkness for God’s love and light. If we do not prosper against fear, fear will prosper against God’s purposes in our lives. Consider the ram in the thicket that God provided for Abraham to use as a sacrifice instead of Isaac.
Abraham had to clear the ticket first before reaching in for the ram. (Genesis 22:1-19) This world we live in has many thickets to clear. Many of these thickets have the bondages of despair, discouragement and devastation, which imprison mankind from living freely. There are many thickets that have trapped our children in dens of drugs, abuse, alcohol, pornography, lies and hopelessness. There are thickets of destruction that rises against marriages, families and households.
If we do not step out of fear, we will never complete our part to clear the thickets for the next generation to proceed. We will leave the work of our generation undone. The succeeding generation will not accelerate but have to do our clearing first before proceeding into their call. We cannot let fear control our feet as it will leave us stagnant and without direction. We cannot be responsible for not searching out God’s plans for this generation. Each generation has a different level of oppression to encounter, destroy and overcome. We are equipped accordingly as saints with weapons suited for the battles we face.
Each generation is called to strive to newness. Life is a circle linking every stage to the next. Newton’s third law - To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. We possess the power for the present. We display selfishness when we are afraid to do our part. Genesis to revelation is a complete picture to God. He is the alpha and the omega. He knows the beginning from the end. To us, it is a puzzle and each generation is responsible for their very own piece of the puzzle. The kingdom successes of each generation sets a stronger foundation for the next. Each generation is responsible for clearing out its own thicket by destroying the plans of the kingdom of darkness. Once the thicket is cleared , the puzzle piece is released to continue the picture. The searching out of newness will discover a greater display of God’s power and strenght. God’s people are a relay team passing on the baton with a strong and big enough lead for the next runner. The race we run as kingdom contenders is not limited to only us but it posseses the efforts of a team running with enough vigour to give the next runner a stronger headstart.Spiritually , the depth and newness we venture into accurately in this season will set out a stronger foundation for the next generation of kingdom contenders.
Change in God’s kingdom is inevitable. Embracing change aligns us to receive our portion of acceleration. The entrustment of a kingdom principle in our hand is a gift. A gift that belongs to the nations.For all the appointments we miss , one more person faces a disappointment.We carry a relevance that should not go unnoticed.When we hold ourselves back, we become one less beacon of Christ’s love and victory to shine. We become one more lamp post does not burn in the darkness to bring restoration and hope. Flavour is not released into the land when salt is afraid to release its saltiness.
When we act out in fear , we leave this earth with an unfinished race , unfinished work and we leave the clearing of the thicket unfinished.
We should not be afraid of what will befall us. God promises to make every crooked way straight.
Lets deal with the opposite of fear.
Faith,confidence and peace are the opposite of fear.
Mark 4:40
And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?
Psalms 4:8
In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety
Psalms 27:3
Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me, yet I will be confident
2 Corinthians 3: 4-5
Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God
Trust, boldness, and security are the opposite of fear.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and, he will make your paths straight.
Following God wholeheartedly and strength are the opposite of fear.
Joshua 14:8
Several other men of Israel went up with me. What they reported made the hearts of the people melt away in fear. But I followed the Lord my God with my whole heart.
Fear is a minor concept when we face challenges as we serve a major God. God promises us faith, peace, confidence, trust, boldness, security and strength when we follow him wholeheartedly. In this, we find more than enough to combat fear. Lets not give in to defeat before we even set our hands to clearing the thicket. It’s time to set the stepping-stones in place. Fear should not send us into hiding. We need to stand fearlessly and send fear into hiding.
Prayer thought
Dear Lord Jesus, I place my confidence in you that you will lead me fearlessly through every ordained path that you have for me. Help me to faithfully do my share for your kingdom here on earth. Let me be part of this generation that will search out the newness for this age to better equip the saints of God for the future. Help me to declare confidently that the Lord is my helper and I will not be afraid of what man can do to me. I seal this request with your precious blood. Amen.
