A child on a complicated planet,
I walked with my Father
secure with my hand in His,
we ambled
through this shopping center world

Along the way I stopped
to behold the false gold
of worldly treasures.
that beckoned to me from every window
Fascinated by the glow of it
I took my hand from His
and wandered away

Entranced by the glitter
I forgot my need to hold His hand
Not knowing I was lost
I held onto the gold of the world instead.

I watched as in my hands
the glitter of it
tarnished before my eyes.
the darkness of it surrounded me
I was afraid and cold

I wanted to go back
to find the light
but I needed a hand to hold
someone show the way
I needed my Father
I had strayed too far
I was lost and far from home

Trying to find my way alone
I looked inside for brilliance,
but it had lost it’s shine
and all around me teemed with evil
I ran from storehouse to storehouse
crying out for my father,
But those who heard
turned away.

I promised obedience,
If I could earn my Father’s love
Maybe he would again take my hand
but I faltered
exhausted and weak from the struggle.
Dirty, used up and broken,
I lay down to rest.
there was no hand to hold
and I was too weak to rise.

with nowhere to turn
and no one to help,
I cried out for my father.
I begged for forgiveness
I was afraid he would turn me away
but without an angry word
he came to me

I felt his arms.
as He reached down,
not to take my hand
so I could walk
but to pick me up so I could fly.

Safe in the arms of love
no longer lost amid the glitter
I was carried to a higher place
a place of peace on earth,
and good will to men.
