The last two lessons, psalms 34 and 35 have been a real change of pace from what has come before. The path we have been following could be described as a psychological journey into a person's beliefs, but suddenly it has turned into a confrontation with something outside the self.

We have gone from the work of looking for something to the awareness of finding it and dealing with it. Many people live a lifetime and never get this far. The last lesson found us standing before the Throne, having a conversation with God. I warned you back in lesson 23 that this path has special requirements and that a special kind of energy would be required to continue, and now we come to the need of it.

We routinely come to God in prayer, but it is not supposed to be a one way conversation. The lesson is that if we diligently seek the Truth, IT will find us, but we must make the effort for it to work. Christ's work opened the veil in the temple so all could see who would look. Once our path shows us the way there, we can go back anytime, and the benefits are treasure beyond our imagining.

36. The Fountain of Life

I see people do awful things to one another and I know that they don’t have the tiniest fear of God in their hearts. They flatter themselves with lies about power they don’t have and it’s hateful to see. Their words only cause injustice and deceit for they have left the path of wisdom and can do no good. They dream up trouble for others and devise ways to make it happen. They know it’s evil but they don’t care anymore.

Lord, your mercy is universal and your faithfulness reaches beyond our sight. Your righteousness fills the earth and your judgement surrounds and covers everything. You are the foundation of life. Excellence exists in the reflection of your loving kindness, and the children of men find trust in the shadow of your wings.

We will be satisfied with the great abundance found in your house. We will drink from the river of your pleasures. With You is the fountain of life, and in your light we will see the light. Lord, continue your affection to all that know You and give righteousness to the true hearted.

Keep me from tripping on pride and don’t let the hands of the wicked take me away. The people who do those awful things have fallen into that trap, they have been overthrown and will not be able to come back.

We have come through the place of judgement and are back to a lesson of action again. The doings of men are hard to watch, they know about evil but don’t care anymore. God’s doing is mercy and faithfulness while our doing becomes satisfaction and drinking from the river of his pleasures. We have seen his light and are guided by what it reveals; his Light shines on what grows while evil shrinks, cloaked in darkness.

This is living the life we were intended. We take part in the unfolding of the creation as we are able, given the time and strength we have available. If we can keep up our praises and avoid wasting energy on the negative and unproductive we will see what it means to take possession of our lives. We are responsible for all we think and feel and do, but we are also rewarded with satisfaction and abundance.

Cynthia,
Thank you for your keen observation for what you say is exactly to the point. This special energy is given to us, not made by us, and it comes because of our faith. It becomes possible for us because we believe it is possible; but then, of course, we must do it. We must perform the actions our faith requires or our faith without works becomes emptiness.

I read your article and was wondering about the "Special requirements" and the "special energy" to reach the goal...it took me back to Galatians 2:20 that says "I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live but Christ lives in me, the life I live in body I
live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me." The other verse that your article brought to mind is Ephesians 2:8-9 that tells us
"For it is by GRACE that you have been saved, through FAITH -and this is not of yourselves, it is a gift of God - not by works , so that no one can boast." The Book of Romans could well answer these and Hebrews too, plus the Book of Isaiah (on idols).
