I am a Foster Parent, and this is my plea to rally the troops, for the need is growing and resources are few.
Jesus himself states ,

Matthew 9 :37,
‘The Harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few.’

and like every other line in Gods Holy Word it is the pure undefiled Truth, that we should all, as followers in Christ , strive to adhere to.
So, how come there are so many kids on the streets, falling into drug abuse , violent crime and prostitution, into the next generation.
I just don’t get it, and neither does He.

Really, I am hoping God will write this for me, since I have no desire to offend anyone……but I do feel this needs to be written, in the spirit of Encouragement, and for His Names Sake.

I am one who prefers to see the good in all, and believe there are many potential foster parents who get scared away by feelings of inadequacy.

So, here are five popular myths about taking in children:

1) A Foster Parent needs to be a special kind of person = bologna.
To Jesus we are all special, and if He lives in you He will be all that you ever need. Right?
I , for one, am nothing at all special………but God, ….He is in the business of moving mountains!

2) You need to have money.= more bologna, for I have very little.

3) You need to be a couple?
O.K. well, it might be a little easier if two were involved in the role of parenting. A valid point.
In a perfect world, and Gods Order i.e.: Man, woman, children, of course two are better than one.
However, things are far from perfect, and a loving home with one parent is infinitely preferable to no home at all.
Ask the kids!

4) It wouldn’t be fair on my own children.
Well, what is it that you want your children to learn in life?
Here’s what they do learn to put into practice . Charity/Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Gentleness, Goodness and , Faith. How cool is that!


So, is anyone out there interested yet?

Here are some real children, ( different names.) I have known, and there are thousands just like them, out there……….

Michael: 9yrs old, the geekiest , but most loveable little boy ever! Not his fault that he is geeky, Mom did drugs/ alcohol while pregnant. Then raised him in one room, and a dog pen when he made a noise.
Sometimes he was duct taped quiet.

Kelly:15. Raped by Dads best buddy, then thrown out by mom……..who never believed her story.
Kelly would overdose almost weekly in a tragic effort for her mother to take her back.

Susan: 4 yrs, left in a park, for someone to find.

Tracy 14: child of the streets since age 11. No prizes for guessing how she survived.

Last argument , and the one I hear most frequently, in my efforts to recruit,

5) These children are too damaged to make a difference ….Hmmm….
This one really gets me going…….so I choose to not even really go there, except to say I am so thankful God did not think that about me.!
The bottom line would have to be, there are some children, who through no fault of their own, end up in more specialized care facilities than a normal home environment can offer.

Michael was such a child, and has been classed as unadoptable, at this time.
Here’s what he does have, an extended family that love him dearly, visit every chance we get and bring him home for Christmas, birthdays, and holidays.
A safe, loving, specialized care facility monitoring and assisting his development for the rest of the time.
A smile, big , and very, very geeky……………….but one that melts my heart to mush on a regular basis!
Best of all he now knows of a man called Jesus who loves him exactly as he is.

Isn’t that what truly matters?

Jesus does to.
His children need homes.
His children need Love, and more than anything else we can ever offer,
His children need Him.
