A NEW YEARS POEM

I'm not much for new years resolutions,
Because striving to commit oneself for one whole year,
stirs up a great amount of tribulation.

So, instead, each day I ask of God:
Some things that would improve my being,
Not particularly to man, but more importantly,
To my Lord, who is forever seeing.

I ask Him to mold me and shape me
To be more like Him.
To hold my light up high, for you see,
sometimes my light is rather low and dim.

Other times I am not very kind
To some I meet along the way.
I ask Him to help me remember
That each one on this earth is part of His creation,
And to control my tongue in the things I say.

At times I am not very giving
To those in need, when I am so blessed.
For you see, there are those who have a hard time living.
As they live from day to day in total stress.

I ask the Lord to help me give,
Not only money, but of myself.
To help those less fortunate learn how to live,
And better their lives, serving Him all the while.

Lord, this year, give me strength from day to night,
Doing for you whatever is right.
Keep me on your straight and narrow path,
obedient to your ways, and free from your wrath.

All these things I ask of you this year, Lord
Work through me, causing your light to glow,
So others may follow because they see you in me.
Make the world a better place to be
Because your ways are what all people must know.
