Trusting in the Lord can be difficult during the lowest times in our lives. Sometimes we face trials that are frightening or go through painful or sorrowful situations that make us wonder why God seems to be hiding His face from us. What we need to remember is that God isn't hiding from us – He isn't the reason that we have fallen on hard times or that our lives have been hit by sorrow or loss. In fact, He is the one constant we can rely on to get us through our trials and tribulations !
When things happen in our lives that are upsetting or unfortunate , we sometimes say, God, where are you?” Things seem to be getting worse instead of better and we wonder why God allows bad things to happen to us. We have to keep in mind that God isn't punishing us or sending us trials or punishments – the world is filled with problems and troubles. God is still present in our lives to lift us up and give us hope despite the troubles of our daily lives. We simply have to let go and let God into the events of our lives so that everything can come together in the perfect order that He has planned for us.
“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.”
Nahum 1:7
The next time you are suffering, whether it is because of some personal grief, a lost job, financial worries, illness or some other issue, don't ask God where He is. Keep in mind that God is always there for you. He is not the reason behind your suffering, but the One who will give you refuge and strength to see you through. Pray that His love and guidance will sustain you and ask for His strength to uphold you. Say this prayer:
“Dear Heavenly Father:
I trust You. I trust Your plan. I trust Your goodness. I trust what You can see and I can't. Heavenly Father, I trust You with all things in my life and know that You will see me through this difficult time in my life with Your loving kindness. Thank You for being there in all things. In Jesus' Name, Amen”.
When you commune with the Lord, don't ask God where He is, because He is always there, right beside you. Instead, ask the Lord questions that can help you learn and grow as one of his children. Ask God, “What should I do, Lord, as I face these difficulties? What do you want me to learn from my sorrows? Will you help me to be strong in your love?” If you remember to walk in faith and ask God the right questions, He will answer in that still, soft voice in the night that comforts you just when you thought He wasn't there.
The world may attack us, but with God we will not be defeated. Our life may be filled with sorrow or difficulties, but with God we will never be abandoned. We may be brought low, but we will never be defeated – because God is always there.
“The Lord is near to all who call on Him,
to all who call on Him in truth.
He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
He hears their cry and saves them.
The Lord watches over all who love Him.”
- Psalm 145:18-20
In, God we have unparalleled hope and courage. God is the One Presence, the One Power in the universe. The spirit of God is with us, and all is well.
