Recently I came home from a business trip and had a note on my desk from one of my daughters which blessed me tremendously. It read: “Dear Daddy, you are the greatest Dad I have ever had. I love you soo…much!!! You have great things coming toward you. You just have to catch e’m!”

As I read her admiring note, I had to chuckle because I’m actually the only Dad she has ever had and “catching those great things coming toward me” might be a little easier said than done, right? But then again, I thought maybe - just maybe - her childlike faith and wisdom was straight from the heart of God.

In Mark 10:14, the Lord was displeased with his disciples when they rebuked little children from reaching out to Him and He told them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” Wow! What a sobering thought…the kingdom of God belongs to those who embrace it like a little child. Unfortunately, as the Lord clarified in His teaching, adults can all too often try to receive the kingdom of God and all of His blessings by much more difficult means than the way He has actually established. In fact, if we’re not careful, our traditions and sophisticated approaches to life may even cause us to miss God’s kingdom all together and fail to “catch the great things” He has planned for us.

I’ve heard it said that “what you make happen for others, God will make happen for you!” With faith as a child, I believe this is true because the Word of God plainly states in Luke 6:31, “And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.” In the kingdom of God, this everyday life principle is called the Law of Reciprocity; however, it is perhaps better known by adults and small children alike, more simply as the Golden Rule – “do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.” Such a simple life vision, but ever so extraordinarily powerful when we actually live it by the inspiration of God!

Just imagine what could happen in our families, workplaces, communities, and nations, if people really lived the Golden Rule for the betterment of others - one person, one encounter at a time. May God bless you with a spirit of childlike faith and wisdom to “make it happen” serving people and solving problems that make a difference in the lives of others. As you do, your heavenly Father - the greatest Dad you can ever have - will faithfully fulfill His promise to see that the same is done for you!
