Do you like to leave things nice and tidy when going away from your job, on a vacation? Does everything have its place and; is it there for the person left to fill in for you? That is hard to accomplish; but it is nice to leave behind no lose ends. I remember once preparing for a vacation to visit my family and burning the midnight oils to complete the task at hand. To be honest, most of us need a vacation, after our vacation!

The opposite is easily revealed; procrastination or a lack of priorities leads to piled up work some one else will be forced to deal with. A cluttered desk is frequently the sign of a busy person; but may also be, an individual missing out on the pleasure of completing a project before a deadline.

If Jesus came to earth with a work description assigned by the Father, what responsibilities may have been detailed there? Did He know exactly what He needed to accomplish in a specific amount of time? Could He expect expenses to be paid? Would Jesus be given a free hand to meet the goals?

I believe the mission statement left no loop holes. “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10 NAS).” The Messiah came prepared for a “search and rescue” operation! He directed His searching eyes and a discerning heart to recognize the lost in His midst. Our Lord wanted more than anything to deliver man, created in God’s image, from the bondage to sin. Time in His mind had no beginning or end. In the fullness of time He was born, would become the perfect sacrifice, rise from the grave, and ascend to heaven. Triumphantly one day He would return to earth, to rule and reign with His bride, the church!

He never lost His focus; all His needs for the fulfillment of the objective were available in a moments notice. The Father always heard His requests and opened His heavenly store house for immediate distribution of supplies. Jesus never tried to “run the show;” He always gave the glory to His Father. His path led to Calvary, which was not a detour or a road block. He knew the cross He bore on that Zion hill, could be clearly marked by road signs, as His final destination!

Were there any lose ends? No! “I glorified Thee on the earth, having accomplished the work which Thou hast given Me to do (John 17:4 NAS).” Where are the sinners He came to save? Those who received His gift of deliverance are in His 24-7 protection! “And I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand (John 10:28 NAS).”
Did He leave with any regrets? No! “When Jesus therefore had received the sour wine, He said, It is finished! And He bowed His head, and gave up His spirit,
(John 19: 30 NAS).”

History reveals in Bible times if a person had a debt he was unable to pay, he could be arrested. Above the cell a document was posted showing the amount owed. When the time was served across that document an official wrote, “It is finished!” Jesus paid our sin debt! Amen!
