FORGIVENESS FOR EVERYONE
Yes, you read correctly. Forgiveness is available for everyone. So perhaps you do not believe this, then keep reading.
Go with me to a hill called Golgotha where there were three crosses. Two thieves on each side of the middle cross where the Son of God was being crucified. This man called Jesus was giving his life for all mankind to provide the final blood sacrifice that would take care of all the sin of every person on earth, not once a year as they had previously been required, but once, for all. Jesus, the Son of God gave himself, suffered every imaginable physical pain, emotional distress and became sin so you and I could be forgiven and restored to fellowship with God the Father. Amazing love!!!
You may say, yeah, I know that story; and have heard it most of my life...but have you really meditated on it. Go there with me in your minds eye. Jesus is not guilty but still is hanging there on that cross with thorns around his head, nails (more like railroad spikes) in his hands and feet where at the end He says "Forgive them, Father, for they do not know what they are doing". (All Jesus' prayers are answered as he request). Did you ever notice the thieves did not have the crown of thorns on their heads? One thief railed against Jesus...If you are really who they say you are; get us out this mess...you have the power, right? The other thief rebuked the first thief, admitted his guilt and asked Jesus to remember him when he came into his kingdom. Jesus replied "Today, you shall be with me in paradise". Forgiveness.
Let's put this into an illustration we can all understand. If someone hands you a gift, all wrapped and beautifully tied with ribbon and gives it to you but you say "Oh, No, I could never accept such a gift" or "You shouldn't have" or "You did not have to do that". Perhaps you said, "No, please, give it to someone who really needs it". If you do not accept the gift, open it up and partake of the contents you will never benefit from the gift.
Forgiveness was made available the day Jesus died on the cross for everyone. We must receive that forgiveness.
Think about it.
