Jesus Christ’s Birth
Luke 2:1 – 7, and Matthew 1:18 – 25


The scriptures in Luke 2:1 – 7, and Matthew 1:18 – 25 give us a view of the birth of Jesus Christ. As we approach the time that we celebrate Jesus Christ’s birth, we should take time to reflect on the significance of Christ’s birth.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem (Luke 2:4). Jesus was born in a humble setting. Mary and Joseph had to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem in order to take part in the census (Luke 2:1 – 5). Jesus was born in a stable Luke 2:7)

Jesus was born to his mother, Mary, and his earthly father Joseph (Matthew 1:19). Mary was a virgin. Jesus was placed in Mary’s womb by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:20).

When Joseph realized that Mary was pregnant, initially he wasn’t going to marry her. He didn’t believe the child was his. As Joseph thought about the situation that he was facing, an angel appeared to him. The angel calmed Joseph’s fears and told Joseph that Mary’s pregnancy was God’s doing (Matthew 1:19&20).

Jesus is God made man (Matthew 1:23). God through the prophets had foretold the birth of Jesus to several generations. Finally, the time of God’s entry into the world as man had arrived.

In conclusion men and women often ask, why did God send Jesus into the world? Jesus was born to save men from their sins (Matthew 1:21).
