Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:3-5

If you’ve ever inherited anything, you may or may not have known that you were in the will of the person from whom that inheritance came. If you knew you were in that person’s will, you probably didn’t know exactly what your inheritance was. And, of course, at least one thing—the death of that person—had to happen before you could receive your inheritance. If you were fortunate, that person’s death was the only thing that was required for you to receive it, but it’s possible that there was a dispute over the will’s provisions, or perhaps there was a competing will, and someone filed a claim in probate court in order to get what appeared to be willed to you. If you were fortunate again, the will had been written in such a way as to protect you from having to pay a tax on what you inherited. And if you were wise and fortunate, you were able to turn what you inherited into an investment that would provide many years of financial return. That’s a lot of “if’s.”

All Christians have an inheritance, too, but, praise God, there are no “if’s.” Our inheritance is a certainty, it’s eternal, and it’s so rich, glorious and luxurious that none of us can imagine what it will be like. Christians have the wealthiest Father in the universe. Our Father owns it all and He has created and reserved for us an indestructible and everlasting inheritance. There is no danger that our inheritance will be spent, destroyed, or willed to someone else. Jesus’ resurrection from the grave sealed the will. All that is needed to be added as a beneficiary of this inheritance is to allow Jesus Christ to be the Lord of your life. Faith in your salvation keeps you sure that one day you will receive your inheritance. Just think—an inheritance so amazing that we don’t have the capacity to imagine it, and no taxes!!!

This Week’s Seed of Faith:

As a child of the God of the universe, I have an inheritance that is free, certain, indestructible, inexhaustible and completely secure. I have faith that my Heavenly Father has reserved this inheritance for me because His Son Jesus is my Savior and the Lord of my life. As a born again believer in Christ, I have the right to my inheritance and it will be as abundant and as glorious as my Father’s eternal, immeasurable love, mercy and grace.
