At the Cross, At the Cross
Easter has so many different meanings to many. The world looks at it and sees a long weekend for a family getaway. The children consider it a welcomed break from school. There are even pagan beliefs attached to it as well. We finally come to the church’s perspective on Easter and some denominations hold contradictory views where they do not celebrate Easter whilst others do the traditional sunrise service and some may not even consider it any different to the norm of a Sunday service.
All in all, its time we as the kingdom of God acknowledge, remember and celebrate the greatest sacrifice ever made for mankind. Theories, views, debates, dispute in the actual day of the event must not render this gift from God any less than it was meant to be. It does not matter whether Jesus died on the 1 April, 15 April, 20 June, 31 August or even 1 January. What is important is that JESUS DIED on the cross of Calvary and he rose again. I will take any three days in any season, anytime in the year to remember him, to remember his anguish and to remember the sin he bore on his shoulders was all mine. Good Friday will remind me of what I deserve compared to what I got. I deserved justice by the law but I got mercy instead. Mercy is NOT GETTING what YOU deserve. On that glorious resurrection morning, I celebrate the Son of God rising from the depths of the grave to be seated on the right hand of the Father. Here I celebrate God’s grace. Grace is getting what I DO NOT DESERVE. Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead to reposition us from orphaned to adopted.
The New Testament links the Last Supper and Jesus’ crucifixion with Passover and the Exodus from Egypt. As Jesus prepared himself and his disciples for his death in the upper room during the Last Supper, he gave the Passover meal a new meaning. He identified the loaf of bread and cup of wine as symbolizing his body soon to be sacrificed and his blood soon to be shed. 1 Corinthians 5:7 states, "Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed
