I don’t know about you, but friends are very important to me. Maybe it’s because I have very little family left, but I have not many friends but those I have are loyal, and if I ever needed anything I wouldn’t be afraid to ask any of them.

The two bits of poetry I am quoting here came from two friends. One friend I have
known for almost 50 years. We are both strong-willed so early in our relationship
we had differences of opinion, then were estranged for a length of time, but we
managed to make up and remained friends.

The other one was a stranger to me until July 4, 2004. She was assistant manager of the Park where I had my home. I was late getting to the rec hall for dinner and the doors were closed because the air was on. Opening doors from my wheelchair has always been difficult for me. I was about to turn away when the door opened to let me in. She found a place for me to park my wheelchair and brought me a plate of food, and we became instant best friends.

A friend is the mirror that matters – her heart holds an image of you
That brings out your beautiful features and lets your best nature shine through.

A friend will be honest and truthful, sincere and unfailingly kind.
She listens with patience and caring and echoes the thoughts in your mind.

A friend is the mirror you look in whenever your heart needs a lift,
And the loving reflection she shows you can be life’s most beautiful gift.
