While writing this on a Friday afternoon, I'm set to welcome an unpopular day among most people religious. ALL major world religions have festivals and what-have-you that they have devoted to some day or other, except to tomorrow, the seventh and last day of the week, in a weekly cycle.

Averaging four Sabbaths per month, 52 per year (and sometimes 53, but usually 52), the Sabbath is a sore point in Christianity, especially. For all the days devoted to some religious, self-appointed duty, this one is the most poignant and yet the most ignored of them all. Poignant because God so appointed it. Forgotten because the majority of people in the world will be about their business tomorrow, on Sabbath, as if God does not exist.

How much does it cost to get married?

Well, let's ask God. He likens His relationship with us to a marriage. What did it cost Him to get married?

It cost Him Himself. "He gave Himself," so goes the lyrics of a POWERFUL song that my soul buddy, Donny Marandure, once sang, back in our day, "the day He wore my crown." God emptied Himself to get married.

O, He also did it ONCE and for all; no continual payment over an indefinite period. ONCE and for all, and He made sure that He paid the cost BEFORE the Sabbath began, and came out of the tomb AFTER the Sabbath had gone past.

I come back to the saints. Let us ask the people who claim to believe and are devoted to God. What does it cost you to get married?

I will answer for myself: I will still observe the ordinance of the Sabbath, proclaimed by the Husband in this celestial and divine marriage, sealed on the cross, even if it costs me my life. This say I in front of all these witnesses on life's stage. So help me God.

What has it cost YOU, reader, to get married?

I note that God ordained the Sabbath day as a memorial to His creative acts on the face of this earth, and then asked us, His bride, to rest in His self-sufficiency on this day as a memorial, also, of the relationship that He forged and sealed with man on that first Sabbath in Eden. Were this day observed yearly, we would call it an anniversary of Creation. Since it is observed weekly, as per the Husband's commandment, calling it the Sabbath will suffice.

Ask any husband who has forgotten the anniversary of his marriage to his sweetheart what the experience was like and you will understand that we, in our human marriages, DO make a fuss when our intimate partners forget meaningful anniversaries. What makes us think that God, the Husband to His church, will not make a fuss about the forgetting of His Sabbath?
