MY CLOSEST FRIEND

Upon a dismal, dreary day,
I made a wish to come my way
someone with whom I could share
my every single hope and care.
Just seconds later, I'm sure I heard
a small, still voice saying these words,
"I'm here, am I not? Am I so very small
that you cannot even talk to me at all?
I made you, I know you, and I want you to see
that your greatest friend should always be Me!
Human friends are nice, that's very true,
but when they're gone, what will happen to you?
I've always been here, and I always will be,
so why don't you just try talking to Me?"
Ever since then, when I'm alone,
I've decided not to moan and groan.
Instead I'll be quiet, and simply pray,
and ask God to help me to walk in His way.

Finally, I have written a poem that rhymes!! My 11 year-old sister read it and said that I was becoming a master of "Dr. Seuss-ish". I'm taking it as a compliment. (laugh) Y'know, it's harder to write something that rhymes than something that doesn't.

And you did a good job, too! I really enjoyed this gentle reminder to think of our closest Friend first!
