Larry Lilly's Letter Monday March 9, 2009

Some mean spirited "Christian" saw to it that a copy of Thursday's article was presented to the eyes of the bride of my youth. She handled it well, but I am not sure I will recover. People often write and chastise me for calling her "The Great Blonde." I assure them that she revels in this title and she is great, no matter the color of her hair.

In replying to the mean spirited "Christian" who sent the copy of the aforementioned article to her, I noted, as she left the computer in mid response to do something else, that she still holds me in the same esteem as when we married in the long ago. The dear one used a statement from the German Romantic poet, Heinrich Heine and applied it to me, her multi-talented hubby. Do NOT think my terms of affection for her are meant to imply that she is a Jane Austen girl. The phrase from Heine:

As for Larry, "Ordinarily he is insane, but he has lucid moments when he is only stupid."

This girl has followed the Good Book in learning to understand and therefore love more deeply God's gift of a husband to her. She is absolutely certain that in the matter of marriage I made the best possible choice. I do not know what she thinks about her choice, which is probably just as well.

My sister told me that Joyce is a true Proverbs 31 wife, and as fate would have it, Joyce heard this statement. I have lived for years with the words of my sister being repeated over and over again from the cherry sweet lips of my girl. She knows the truth about herself and she is the ideal as described by Solomon concerning his mother, Bathsheba.

I started this article early in the morning and due to the phone ringing, (I loathe the memory of Alexander Graham Bell) I had to leave and upon returning found this typed into this manuscript:

Do you mean this kind of Jane Austen girl? "A woman, if she have the misfortune of knowing anything, should conceal it as well as she can…imbecility in females is a great enhancement of their personal charms."

This article should make it plain which member of this family suffers from imbecility. Joyce is a deeply spiritual woman and uses the scripture to help me. One verse, which is emblazoned in several fashions around the house, keeps me aware of her importance to me:

Proverbs 18:22 "Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD." Thanks Solomon, you're a real help.
