Did you have any luck with the homework exercise? If you try, can you remember to keep at it? It will produce energy, or at least keep you from wasting it. You will need to learn this technique if you ever hope to gain enough energy to take advantage of the lessons that lie ahead. There is truth in them, and there is power as well; but a small amount of a power of a certain kind is necessary to be able to wield the greater power, like a switch.
The technique is a method to insulate yourself from the loss of energy that comes from the expression of negative thought or emotion. It is easy enough to do, but nearly impossible to remember to do it for very long. The hard part is that you must do it all day long. Not everyday, not at first; just one day, but all day. You must do it once so that you will know that it can be done. You will begin to see what it means to have a will, to do a thing purely because you intend it and for no other reason. Think of it like training your favorite pet, only you will be training your thought process.
And now we get to the 24th Psalm which is about feeling a positive attitude. In the cycles of doing, thinking and feeling, Psalm 22 was about doing God’s will and the effort of praise to move along the path. Psalm 23 is a statement of truth in the form of praise and the homework assignment was the practice of that praise. Now we are about to enter into the active work of living according to the spirit instead of only following the impulses of the body and we begin with a trumpet fanfare and a marching tune.
24. Power and Glory
The Lord made the land, and everything that is on it; He made the whole earth and He made us. His power established our tiny planet in a span of universe that extends beyond our understanding. Who among us could go up to visit the Lord? Who could stand in that place of power?
It would be one with clean hands, and a pure heart; who has not sacrificed his judgement for vanity, or given lies for gain. He will receive power from the Lord, he will be put on the path to his salvation. We are the generation that seek after the Lord, we seek the face of the God of our fathers.
Wake up, you gatekeepers!
Open up the everlasting doors; the King of glory is coming through.
Who is the King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
Wake up, you gatekeepers!
Open up the everlasting doors; the King of glory is coming through.
Who is the King of glory?
The Lord of hosts is among us, He is the King of glory.
Wake up! We are the ones who must do this. Open up the doors! Others have come before us but now it is our time. The attitude we maintain and the feeling we hold onto is the energy we get back from the thinking and the practice of doing God’s will. There is power in real joy, power to live as we decide. This is what the Psalms are for, to guide us in how to live for a long, long time.
