2/22/09 Pastor Joey's sermon: Got Faith??
Matt 8:23-27
Jesus said "why are ye fearful, O ye little faith??
It is a good thing to follow where Jesus is going.
vs 23 Jesus went into the boat and the disciples followed him. Wherever Jesus is going...WE NEED TO FOLLOW! Wherever Jesus goes, we go.
vs 24 The sea grew rough, the storm came. For us to survive and thrive with God, we have to Expect Obstacles. The disciples were not on Gilligan's Island with Ginger and Maryanne. They were scared to death of drowning! So we need to expect obstacles and Enjoy the Journey.
Enjoy the Journey means for us to be content with the circumstances we are in. We have God on our side!! Enjoy our life. The less we enjoy life, we weaker we will be on our journey. Why??? Because the Joy of the Lord is Our Strength!
But Jesus was sleeping: Was he sleeping with one eye open so the disciple's faith could be tested? Was Jesus really sleeping in perfect peace? All we know is that Jesus was sleep BUT he was in Perfect Control! It may feel to us like Jesus is sleeping but hes NOT. Jesus was sleeping but he was IN THE BOAT!
As long as Jesus is in the boat, in our life, its cool and it will be all right. But if Jesus is not in the boat, not in your life, then you are Toast! You are up the creek!!
Also, if you have willful disobedience in your life, its like stepping out of the boat.
The disciples woke up Jesus hollaring about them drowning. Jesus said calmly,"why are you afraid, ye of little faith? Jesus was upset because of their little faith. He said hes in the boat so all is cool. We do not need to fear when Jesus is in our boat. Trust in Him and have faith that it will be all right. God Will Come Through!
vs 26 God is always faithful: Jesus got up and rebuked the winds. We need to be thankful for the calm and for the winds/waves. We know the winds/waves will strengthen us. The peace/calm is for us to get restored. Be thankful for it all.
vs 27 The disciples were amazed when Jesus calmed the storm. We should never lose our wonder and amazement with Jesus. We should never lose our wonder and amazement with what God is doing in our lives.
*******How to Have Big Faith*********
1) Follow Jesus into the boat
2) Have a daily spiritual revelation that Jesus is in the boat with us.
3) Spend time with God privately and throughout the day. Be aware of God's presence.
4) Make sure we wait to see Him come through in our lives. Don't jump the boat!
Stand and see Jesus come through for us.
*Stand Still and See the Salvation of the Lord*
Amen
