THE REALM OF ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES………. By Felix Abrahams Obi



It was Tuesday, October 14th, 2003 .The main bowl of the ultra modern Abuja National Stadium was crammed. Spectators had trooped in to catch a glimpse of the track and field events of the 8th All Africa Games.At one end of the track stood a young Ghanaian long jumper, Ignisious Galsas. His disarming smile stole the heart of the crowd who responded to the bidding to clap while he got ready to jump. Like a symphony conductor, he ensured they crowd clapped enthusiastically. With so much vigor he took off to take his jump…then landed on the sandy strip on the tartan tracks1 The umpires took the measurement and to his chagrin, his 8.28m effort had erased the existing African record which a Nigerian had set in a previous All Africa Games. Not just satisfied with his already impressive effort, he makes another attempt and clocked a stunning 8.30m, thus erasing his own record to become the African champion in long jump. Instantly, he became a celebrity, with so media men jostling to interview someone who was not known as a champion prior to the COJA games. Ignisious had explored the realm of endless possibilities!!

Then came Thursday,the 16th of October when the 200m men’s final event . Frankie Fredricks of Namibia, the African record holder was on the tracks to defend his record. At the training pitch adjoining the main bowl, was Nigeria’s Uchenna Emedolu who looked on with trepidation which was palpable.He possibly wondered ," Will I ever be able to beat this legendary superstar from Namibia?" We (his physiotherapists) and his personal coached urged him on, assuring him that he can make it….!He ran the race of his life till he braced the final tape .It was a near photo finish. Namibians threw their national flag to Frankie who had began to celebrate instantly for he was certain he had won the race.

But when the race replayed on the giant screen at the stadium, the camera lenses showed that Uchenna won convincilly.Frankie was shocked as Uche himself was dazed,while the crowd went wild in tumultuous jubilation.A new African Champion he had become,just with a little stretch of the human will. The endless realm of possibilities had dawned on him!!

A South African female swimmer who won gold at the last 7th All African games had one of her limbs amputated through an accident.She had declined the option of competing as a "disabled" athlete which fitted her condition. She eventually won retained her gold medal after beating the ‘able-bodied" swimmers. She once again has proven that the human spirit can break the hedge of impossibilities. I saw same trait in the Botswana male 4x 400m relay quartet who beat the Nigerian team to win the gold medal.For years,Nigerians have reigned as the African kings of athletics. There was disappointment and dismay on the faces of Nigerians who watched in disbelief as the Botswana team coasted .They had no pedigree to boast of but by their determination ,they created history!

This realm of endless possibilities is not the exclusive domain of superstars and sportsmen. Many other and seemingly ordinary people in different parts of the world have been able to explore this realm of endless possibilities to redefine history.This possibility consciousness saw lily-livered Simon Peter walk on water at the Instance of Jesus in spite of his innate fears and sense of inadequacy.Caleb, an octogenarian routed giants at good old age to take possession of a choice real estate.It made Virgin Mary experience supernatural conception without recourse to artificial insemination or the other popular reproductive technologies.


It’s an amazing reality to know that impossibilities are not as certain as possibilities. For when God created the world, there really were no walls to limit our thoughts and actions.Men of different ages created both mental and physical walls.Germans built the Berlin wall .Jerusalem was walled by the Jews.Jericho city had a fortified wall around it. The Great Wall of China was the handiwork of the Chinese.A mud wall encircles the ancient city of Kano.Only men build walls for the "safety" of their lives. But the continents have no walls around them.Only men and women set the borders of nations and kingdoms. God never built such walls and barriers!!.

It’s our fear of failure, the sense of inadequacy, doubt, unbelief etc that lock us (humans) out of this palpable world of endless possibilities. But with a little faith, some ounce of persistence, some patience, and confident trust in God, this realm can become a reality.

Jesus Christ exemplified this life of endless possibilities.He walked on water casually like beach surfers.he quietened raging storms by speaking to them.He raised people from the dead. He healed incurable diseases that defied medical attention. He probed peoples’ thoughts without the aid of brain scanners. He used no brewing technology to produce choice wine. He defied the natural laws of science and transformed 12 fearful and ordinary folks to fearless reformers that changed the course of the ancient Roman Empire.Death abhorred him, the tomb could not hold him to ransom. He had proven that all things are possible in life!!

Those who identify with him have by that relationship been primed to experience the realm of endless possibilities so long as they submit to him as their Lord and Master. This is because, they will be able to think, and talk, act, and walk like him on earth without being caged by the wall of impossibilities and limitations in life! They have access to the realm of endless possibilities ,hence are the much needed transformers whom all the world is waiting for their manisfestation.
