Don't Sweat the Wrong Things, We Have Jesus
By: Rick L. King
Feb 21, 2009

The Holy Spirit once told me, “What other people do is not your concern, just do what I tell you to do, and leave the rest to me”.

These are words I try to live by once I really understood how important that they really are. When our focus gets on people, problems, money, world affairs, etc.. we actually get our focus off the Lord. Not that these things are not important, but we need to remember what Jesus did. He did what he saw His Father do, and spoke what He heard His Father speak. When we take on these things we lose our intimacy with the Lord. We can actually take on a spirit of false burden that will just weight us down. There are so many things that we are tempted to focus on, as the enemy knows how to make us ineffective. Our power comes as we draw near to the Lord and His Holy Spirit and find out what He desires to do. He empowers us to do what He asks. With all the other junk, we are walking in our own intellect or understanding. We must remember that God’s ways and thoughts are so much higher than ours are. In order to tap in to His, we must do as it says in 2 Cor 10:5. We must cast down the imaginations and bring our thoughts captive to His knowledge. If we will learn to do this, we will experience His power and anointing to accomplish what He chooses to do through us.

Mr 4:19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

I had an experience with a friend of mine that really brings this home. He had lived with his mother for years. He was helping her, as she couldn’t do much anymore. He had a brother and two sisters but they never helped with what was needed. He couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t help and felt the pressure to do things, but had no resources to do them. He got very frustrated and upset often. Finally one day the Holy Spirit revealed that he was carrying a false burden. God delivered him of it. Once the burden was gone and the weight of him feeling like all was his responsibility was lifted, his family started helping. See, when we take on these things and carry them, God can’t. We must release everything to Him. He is the burden bearer. My friend now walks free in the Spirit and God is using him mightily. This could never happen before as his focus was on the wrong things.

Another experience was when a person got all out of shape over a quarter that they figured they were cheated out of. It was only one quarter that almost started a war. There was such contention it was terrible. How many wars have started over something so silly? How many marriages have ended in divorce over such trivial things? We are told to not enter into contention.

We must learn to walk single-minded. It becomes only about what the Lord wants, not about what we want. God does not need our help or us in control religiously, he just needs us to walk in obedience to what the Holy Spirit requests.

Isaiah 30:31, says that when we walk trusting in the flesh or in man, other than trusting the Holy Spirit, that we are in rebellion. Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. Witchcraft is mind control. When our mind and we is trying to run things, we are in rebellion and witchcraft. We must learn to listen to the Holy Spirit and make this a sole priority if we are to please God. Scripture also states that those in the flesh (their carnal mind) cannot please God.

Bottom line, we must not get our focus on minor things and make them a major thing. God has someone to take care of the things that He has not called us in particular and anointed us to deal with. Zech 4:6…seems to be my favorite verse. Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord.” If we can just learn to become intimate with the Holy Spirit and allow Him to be in control, we would be much more fruitful in our walk with Him. Somehow we have had things backwards. We want God to do for us what we want, instead of us finding out and doing what He wants. Mathew 6:33. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all things will be added.

It has to be His will and desires first. That is what pleases Him.

If we were to only carry what God desires for us to carry, we could pray through and be released. yet, when we carry false burdens, we are weighted down and can't get rid of them. We must learn to carry what God desires for us to carry only.

Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. KJV
