Racism – White vs? Black vs? and the Rainbow


Why does our title say Caucasion vs. African Americans? The answer is in the attitudes of the “people”. Yes, I refer to these individuals as simply “people”. For there is not a more accurate word. A human being sees human beings. However, “people see color."

Society today is filled with racism all over the nation, and quite frankly all around the world. This book may have grabbed your attention due to its title. As you read this book, know that you are either filled with racism with negative aspirations to belittle and criticize this book, or, conversely, it’s possible, your open minded to different races and willing to explore and educate yourself on why and how racism exists today. Understand, this book is not written to be convincing and mind altering in changing your views to those of different color. If it happens then great, but I don’t profess to changing human beings hearts, for only God can do that. Rather this book is to open your mind to really examine if racism is still prevalent in your life on a daily basis, quite possibly without being aware. However, know that lack of awareness of one’s own mind, can be described in one word, that is ignorance.
This book will explore previous conceived patterns of thinking, while offering concrete examples that are in essence racist viewpoints, masked in the strongholds of racial tradition.

Simply put, as a society we are programmed a certain way. For example, color of skin usually will dictate who you will hang out with, and where you will go. Unfotuneately, I would argue that the world is still 75% racist. As stated earlier, for the purposes of this book, I will be focusing on Caucasion vs? African American. However, let’s be aware that this is just one slice of the racial pie that exists in America today. This book will be considered a success, if there is just one mind that is pried open to accepting others who may not be of the same color. If there is just one mind that will slide across the rainbow of colors, rather than slide down and stay confined to their own color, than this book will be considered a absolute success.


Chapter 1 – Allowing the Past to Shape the Present

Wow!Wow!Wow! Listen, this is absolutely ridiculous. We are in the year 2009, and
are still judging others by color of skin. When I say we, I mean all of us. Yes, the past does shape the present, but we can shape the future.

Before jumping into the various reasons why our past has contributed to shaping our present society today, let me define racism as I view it. That is, racism is a view or belief that one of another color is somehow not equal or adequate enough to one's own race to be a valid contributor to society. More direct, racism is a viewpoint poisoned with hatred and the inability to look past the color of skin. When one holds themselves in higher esteem than others, naturally, resentment and hatred toward other races are the result. Eventually, and sooner than later, other races are viewed as a waste in society. One may argue that is a broad definition, and not specific enough. However, racism is exhibited in innumerous ways, and should not be defined in a narrow sense. For this to happen, would be to allow racism to be confined and only attributed to one area of life. Unfortunely, racism is truly seen in all areas of life. We will be exploring those areas in more detail later. To truly encompass the detrimental effects racism has, one needs to cover “blatant” racism vs. what I refer to as “undercover” racism. Let’s not be fooled, both types of racism can be just as dangerous, and both are prevalent in society today.

Reason #1
Programmed to Hate

Now is the time to throw away all those pre-conceived notions that you possibly were raised with, and begin to think for yourself. As children, usually we are raised by a authoritative figure in our lives that will be influential in shaping our views toward others. However, that was when we were children. What is our excuse now that we are older, and hopefully mature enough to think for ourselves? There is no excuse. I would contend that as soon as one is mature enough to shape there own thoughts, then one is faced with a choice to be racist or not. If one holds racist views or beliefs at this point, there is no valid reason to blame anyone else. In fact, even if we had a specific incident in our life that constituted a negative viewpoint of another race, we are still presented with a choice. That is to hold that incident against that person and generalize it to their entire race, or we can choose to forgive and move on. I know it may not seem so easy, however, when one can forgive and let go, one has freed themselves from the act of hatred committed against them. Remember, God promises to be the Judge, and I would say his consequences for hateful acts are absolutely more powerful than any revenge we may scheme.
When will the day we can consider ourselves free actually occur? That is when we awake one morning and say, “Today I will go through this 24 hour period without any negative feelings toward others of opposite color. If I truly experience a feeling of hatred, I will immediately be aware of that thought and seek forgiveness. Not until we can go through an entire day of “clean” views, are we then able to truly step on our past, and positively contribute to the future. Many of us are still entangled in the way we were brought up, and not mature enough to break from that upbringing and shape one’s own view toward racism toward others. Thankfully, I grew up in a home where racial views were non-existent. However, that doesn’t mean I didn’t see it everyday in one form or another. Regardless if you grew up with it or not, step up and be the person to break down that wall of hatred. Many are able, but only few will.
