The Car Wreck
Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us. I John 4:17-19 NKJV
When I was seventeen, I had a wreck in my dad’s car. It was a bad wreck. Thank God, no one was injured, but there was substantial damage to Dad’s car and to the car I hit. I knew I had to tell Dad, and I was terrified. But, it had to be done. I picked up the phone to call him, and I was shaking so badly that I could barely punch the numbers on the key pad. After I stammered and stuttered and finally spit out the “W” word, and after Dad yelled for a minute, he asked for the other driver’s name and insurance information and said that he would take care of everything. I received a brief lecture that night on being more careful (no yelling this time), and that was the end of it. The moon rose that night, the sun rose the next day, I was still alive, and my dad still loved me just as if the wreck had never happened. I was still Jim Pugh’s older daughter, but I was more humble, and more careful.
As a Christian, I am God’s daughter. He is my DAD. He loves me after I have a “life-wreck” just as much as He did before. He doesn’t turn me away. His perfect love allows me to come to Him, and when I do, He forgives, He forgets, and I love Him even more than I did. He sees me here on earth as He sees His Son Jesus in heaven—perfect, holy and righteous.
Do not be afraid or hesitant to go to God with your sins. He is not surprised by them, in fact, he knew about them before you committed them. Don’t allow your sins to push you away from God. He loves you with a perfect, unconditional, immeasurable love that will never change. Go boldly before Him and ask for forgiveness. (See Hebrews 4:16 NKJV) Let His love cast out your fear. Let His perfect love be made perfect in you.
This Week’s Seed of Faith:
Father, I thank you that your love for me is perfect and unchanging. I thank you that you want me to confess my sins in boldness and not in fear. I thank you that as Jesus is, so am I in this world. I receive your complete, perfect forgiveness for all of my sins. I am humbled by your free gift of grace and I receive it. I pray this in Jesus’ Awesome Name, Amen.
