The Listener

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
I John 5:14-15

Years ago, I gave my husband an anniversary card that featured a drawing of a couple sitting at the breakfast table. The wife was telling her husband how wonderful their marriage had been, how happy he had made her, how she was looking forward to many blessed years ahead—all that mushy, female, wedding-anniversary talk. The husband, engrossed in the morning paper, responded, “Yeah, chicken’s fine.”

Doesn’t it sometimes seem as though we get a similar response from God, particularly after we’ve poured out to Him all of our needs, complaints, problems, worries, and anxieties?

Well, be assured that God isn’t engrossed in the morning paper (I’m quite certain He doesn’t subscribe).

The problem is not on God’s end — it’s on ours. God already knows our needs, complaints, problems, worries, and anxieties, and He cares about them so much that He already has the answers. He’s just waiting for us to ask according to His will.

God knows the answers, and they are true, correct and failure-proof. He wants to know that we desire for Him to do what is according to His will (Note: His will, not our idea of His will).

We find God’s will in God’s Word, because God’s Word is God’s will. If we search the scriptures for what God says about our needs, complaints, problems, worries, and anxieties, and if we pray what we find, then we pray according to His will. If we pray what God says in His Word, He hears us, and He gives us the answers we seek - and then everything will be fine!

This Week’s Seed of Faith:

I thank You, Father, that You know all of my needs and all of my desires, and I thank You that You already have the answers before I ask. I know that when I pray according to what You say, You will hear and listen and give me the answers I need. Thank you, Father, that You love me so unconditionally that You provide me with everything I need and that I am never out of Your sight or Your hearing. I will learn what the Bible says about the things I need, and when I pray that word to You, I can be certain that I am praying according to Your perfect, infallible will, and I will have an answer to all of my prayers. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
