Poetry
I saw a tree in the morning light
When the day was newly born,
So tall it stood with its boughs outstretched,
So calm in the hush of dawn;
And thus as I looked throughout the day
Till the sun's glow died away,
The tree remained serene, unchanged,
So lovely, so perfect, so beautiful.
I saw that tree attired in spring
With robe so fine and regal,
Filled with the song of nesting birds,
Graced with a gentle fragrance;
And then through the heat of summer days
Till autumn leaves were falling
Still to my heart the tree remained
So lovely, so perfect, so beautiful.
I saw that tree when the winds moaned loud,
When the sky was split asunder
With a lightning flash through the driving rain
And the sound of mighty thunder;
And then in the snow, when the air was chill,
In the silent hours of winter;
Yet still to my heart the tree remained
So lovely, so perfect, so beautiful.
And as I stood my heart was filled
With a sense of awesome wonder
That you who are Lord of this splendid tree
Are the one who has chosen me;
That just like the tree as I stand in your care
In the place where you have put me,
Whatever may come, my life in your hands
Can be lovely and perfect and beautiful.
