Encouragement
I watched an old classic movie last night: The Hiding Place. You may recall it is the story of the Ten Boom family of Holland, and how they helped shelter Jewish people during the German occupation in the 1940’s.
I had seen the movie years ago, but watched it afresh last night, seated next to my almost-21-year-old daughter and sister-in-the-Lord.
So many times during the movie, the Lord convicted me of my life. When they were doing the noble acts of assistance, I wondered “what am I actually “doing” for the Lord? (He and I chatted about that for a while after the movie).
When the situation worsened, and Corrie and her family went to the concentration camps… I thought about my own family, of my love for each member, and how hard that would be. As Corrie’s new life was shown in the day-to-day hardships, degradation and atrocities of concentration camp life, I wondered if I could be as brave.
The Lord whispered to my heart: “Hmmm… Well, let’s see. How you doing with the assignments I gave you today?”
Father, forgive me. Help me not wait for opportunities to be “Brave”, but rather to be caught with plenty of evidence of being faithful to anything you send my way…
And, if there were a trial, that I would be found guilty of loving and obeying you!
