[LISTEN TO PRESIDENT-ELECT
PRACTICING HIS INAUGURATION
SPEECH.]

"LORD?"

[SILENCE.]

"Are You LISTENING

"Yes,

(Ornery look up at ceiling.)
"Like I was sayin', the only
reason I saw that MOVIE,
was for Tom CRUISE."

[EMPATHETIC NOD.]

"Yeah; I don't care
HOW flaky, he is,
in real LIFE......he's STILL
a great ACTOR!"

"I understand,
My precious."
[CALM GAZE.]

"I just didn't get the part,
with his Nazi character
wearin' that CROSS?"
(Peer cluelessly up at ceiling.)
"Don't Ya REMEMBER: he
was wearing a little gold
Cross, on a gold CHAIN,
with his wedding ring on
IT?
(Squint.)
"It was UNDERNEATH... his
NAZI uniform!"

[PATIENT NOD.]
[WATCH A FAMILY GOING
INTO WALMART, LOOKING
FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING
DAY SPECIALS.]

"I thought the Nazis were
all......ATHEISTS....?"

"No, child."

"But.....they hated JEWS!
Didn't they know JESUS
was a Jewish PERSON?"

[CALM SILENCE.]
[WATCH MOVING MEN
AS THEY CARRY BOXES
OF NEW LINENS INTO THE
WHITE HOUSE.]

(Squirm!)
"I FIGURED, Ya weren't
gonna answer my QUESTION,
Lord!"
(Peer curiously up at ceiling.)
"What r'Ya WATCHIN',
ANYWAY?"

[SMILE!]
"You,
My beloved."

"WHY?
I'm just SITTIN' here,
in my old BATHROBE, eatin'
some strawberry SHERBET!"

[SMILE!]
[GENTLE CHUCKLE.]
"Yes,
child."

(Shrug.)
"Anyhow....that movie was
predictably sad, and MOROSE."

[SYMPATHETIC NOD.]

"I mean....I kept waitin' for
the AMERICANS to show up!"

[NOD.]
"But,
they did,
child.

would've been real proud. America
is truly a great country. (You can
tell the author is a little bit
biased....where her country is
concerned, huh? I guess, it's
got somethin' to do with her
Jewish grandparents schlepping
over here, on a low-class boat,
from Communist Russia.)
