Encouragement
“His mother said to the servants, “whatever He says to you, do it” John 2:5
What a great statement of faith! This was the instruction that Jesus’ mother gave to the disciples after she had informed Him that there was no more wine at the wedding feast. She didn’t know how He would help, but she knew that He would. She also understood something that we would come to learn – we must be active in receiving our miracle!
This was the first miracle that Jesus performed. How awesome that He used that opportunity to establish a pattern with the disciples that we would need to follow today.
“Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it to him.” John 2:7-8
He gave them instruction and they were required to respond at that moment! There was no explanation or indication at that time of how this would help. But they trusted and obeyed. They didn’t stop to consider consequences or what would happen to them if the water didn't change. We see no scriptures telling us that they feared their own reputation. How awesome that they responded immediately and did not miss their moment! It was Jesus that supernaturally turned the water into wine, but it took the obedient act of faith on behalf of the disciples before the miracle was seen.
We see the same situation in feeding the multitudes with just a few loaves of bread and fish. Jesus took the food and blessed it and then He gave it to the disciples to feed the people and the need was met in abundance. He wants us to be involved in obtaining our blessings.
What miracle are you expecting from God? A divine healing? Salvation for a loved one? Deliverance from bondages? These are true miracle requests in the making. A miracle by definition is an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause. In other words – only God!!!
In our minds, we would expect something so awesome to require a grand participation on our parts, if we are to be involved at all. But, sometimes it will be a simple act of faith – something so small as filling a waterpot, casting your net to the other side of the boat… What we must remember is that in God’s hands, EVERYTHING can be grand. What is required from us above all is obedience and faith.
We don’t have to know how it’s going to happen or even when. We just need to remember Mary’s instruction. First take it to Jesus in faith. And then, whatever He tells you to do….JUST DO IT!!!!
