LIVING THE RISEN LIFE

Colossians 3:1-4
The resurrection of Jesus from the dead has great consequence for the church and the world. Being “the first fruits of them that slept”, His resurrection gives the assurance that afterward, “every man in his own order” shall be raised from the dead (1Cornthians 15:21-23; Isaiah 26:19; Daniel 12:2; John 5:28-29). Christ’s resurrection is the basis of our faith and justification (1Corinthians 15:17-19; Romans 10:9-10; 4:24-25). Faith in Christ’s resurrection gives us the power to live a newness of life and provides the hope of our reigning with Him.
1. SPIRITUAL RESURRECTION
Colossians 3:1; Luke 15:24; Ephesians 2:1-6; Colossians 1:13-14; 2:12-15
“Risen with Christ”, In our natural state, we were dead in sin and trespasses. We were separated from God and we have no grace or spiritual strength to live like God’s son.
Until we are redeemed and justified through Christ who was raised from the dead by the glory of the father, we remain separated from His kingdom.
“Risen with Christ”, at salvation, we became dead to sin and the world. When we were saved, we died to our “former husband”, rose from the dead, and took on a new kind of life – eternal life (Romans 7:1-6). At the moment of salvation, we came alive in Christ. We now live a quality of life that only God can give.
2. HEAVENLY MINDEDNESS
Colossians 3:1-3; Philippians 3:20; Ephesians 2:6; Matthew 6:19-25; Titus 2:11-14; 1Peter 2:24; 2Timothy 2:11; Philippians 2:5
If our minds are stuck in the things of this world, then we are not living in the will of God. Having eternal life take us into the presence of God so that we can live His kind of live.
Notice in Colossians 3:1-4 that our conscious preoccupation is to be on Christ: “ … with Christ” (verse 1). “Where Christ …”(verse 1). “… With Christ”(verse 3). “When Christ … with Him …”(verse 4). The emphasis is clear – having Christ is everything. He is the centre of resurrection life. “Seek those things which are above”. The conscious preoccupation of every believer is to be on Christ.
3. FUTURE GLORY
Colossians 3:4; 1John 3:2-3; Philippians 3:20-21; Romans 8:16-18; 1Peter 5:1-4; Revelation 22:3-5
The world may not recognize us now – they may not know that we live in the heavenlies – but someday they are going to know, when He appears at His second coming, we will appear with Him. The verdict of eternality is going to reverse the verdicts time and people are going to see who it was that really pleased God. When He appears, we will be manifest with Him in glory.
