Did you know our spirits could suffer from malnutrition? This may be hard to recognize because we can't exactly see our spirits. And many of us do such a good job of hiding what we really feel inside. But if we could see our "spirit man" visually, it might look like the little starving children we see talked about on TV by different charitable organizations.
Its not always enough to just go to church, we must maintain our own vessels. The more we maintain it with the reading of God's Word, the less vulnerable we are spiritually and the more abundantly God is able to live within us. If our body is God's temple, we want to make Him feel at home, don't we?
We must not forget that, "Man can not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God." The lack of a consistent diet of God's Word can leave a void that makes us more vulnerable to sickness, disease and spiritual attacks. Not to mention sinful temptations of all kinds that are certain to reward us with more sickness and disease.
When we are void of the Word of God it can create a depravity within us that is often filled with the wrong things; smoking, over-eating, addictions, you name it. So the partaking of God's Word fills those voids with what is good, then there is less room for what is not.
God's Holy Word is the sword of the spirit and the only effective "weapon" to do battle against the enemy's attacks that would weaken and rob us. So particularly in times of crisis we must go the extra mile to strengthen and maintain ourselves with daily Bible reading.
It helps to cover ourselves with God's whole armour also. We can't expect "to stand against the wiles of the devil" without spiritual armour. Ephesians 6:11-17 describes the process of placing this armour upon one's self.
God's Word is like a spiritual antioxidant. If it were not important to feed ourselves with the word of God, then why would the Lord say, "If we abide in Him and His 'Word' abide in us, ask what you will and it shall be done unto you."
You wouldn't stop feeding your baby just because he outgrew milk and baby food would you? You wouldn't stop feeding your child just because he became a teenager would you? You wouldn't expect your children to stop eating just because they grow up do you?
The spiritual nourishment that can only be acquired from the Word of God is vital to the development of His children at every age, stage, chapter, season and level of life; as long as we live and breath upon this earth. If you want to live abundant and victorious lives, make God's Holy Word a part of your diet, for it is food that feeds the spirit man.
