DELIVERANCE FROM THE BATTLE OF THE TONGUE
Text:James 3:4-6; Numbers 12:1-10; 16:1-33
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they tat love it shall eat the fruit thereof” (Proverbs 18:21).
One major source of man’s problem is the tongue. Some crisis that could have bee averted exists today because of the negative use of this little organ.
Marriages break up and close associates becomes enemies because of the hurtful utterances. Marriam, korah, Dathan and Abiram in the Bible (Read Numbers 12:1-1; 16:1-33) received the fire of God’s anger because they used tongues wrongly. “Out of the abundant of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Matthew 12:34).
If there’s going to be deliverance for the tongue, it will first of all take place from the heart. This is because from the heart, every part of the body is coordinated. The heart that will speak righteously must first be a regenerated heart and purified y the sanctifying power of the blood of Jesus and of the Holy Ghost. A heart whose stony nature has been changed.
“For in many things we offend in all, if any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body … The tongue is a fire, … it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature” (James 3:2, 6).
A flow of word does not mean a flow of wisdom, nor eloquence the result of wise use of tongue. The care of the tongue is solely the wise use of the tongue. The following tips will be most useful for the deliverance of the tongue.
1. Be born again: Edifying words are spoken form a regenerate heart “The tongue the just is a choice silver” (Proverbs 10:20).
2. Consecrate your tongue to the Lord: Like the psalmist, pray this prayer “set watch, o Lord before my mouth, keep the door of my lips” (Psalm 141:3).Consecration and prayer leads to sanctification, an experience which circumcises our heart which in turn affects our tongue.
3. Mind your speech: Do not speak your mind, but mind your speech, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but which is good to the use of the edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers” (Ephesians 4:29).
4. Be a Christian of few words: “Know that the language of truth is always simple” “ … every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment” (Matthew 12:36).
Be a good listener: Hear twice before you speak once. “Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” (James 1:19).
Speak softly: Read the people’s body language, as well as their words. Then speak first to your exclusive hearing before you speak out. “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger” (Proverbs 15:1).
Learn to be quiet: Speech is silver, Silence is golden. “The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools” (Ecclesiastes 9:17)
Speak the word: “Preach the word, be instant in season, out of season, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine” (1Timothy 4: 2).
Speak positive words: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). We are ensnared by the word of our mouth. As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.
Speak more to God than to men: Complaining and murmuring will not do. But pray without ceasing. “I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide and I will fill it” (Psalm 81:10). When we speak? When the time, your motives and your words are right, then you can pass on an apple of gold in a setting of silver.
speak no evilof any man, not even in the matter of truth, but rather excuse the faults that you hear, and upon proper occasions, speak all the good you know of everybody.Build up your tonue today and recieve the blessings that follows from the Lord (Proverbs 14:1).
