(Squinched up near-sighted-
far-sighted squint.)
"I don't UNDERSTAND?
WHAT?"

[PATIENTLY WAITING.]

"I was never very logical,
to START WITH!"

[NOD.]

"So.......I don't GET it?
All this time, I thought
I was talkin' to YOU!"

[SMILE!]
"Who, child?"

"YA know:
........GOD!"

[SMILE.]

"Well.......
(Puzzled squint.)
Then.....
WHO am I TALKIN'....
to?"

"You're talking
to Me,
child."

(More squinting.)
(Both glasses slip down nose.)
(Pet scruffy cat sitting on Big Bible.)
(Puzzled silence.)
"HUH?"

[GENTLE SMILE.]

"But.......WHO was
it Who PARTED the
REA SEA? I mean,
I know it was
Charlton Heston....
but, WHO HELPED
him?"

[BURST OUT LAUGHING!]
"I did,
child."

"And......WHO led
the Israelites..... outta
EGYPT?"

"I did."

(Squint.)
"Well......WHO
gave Moses those
2 stone TABLETS?
Ya know: UP on
THAT MOUNTAIN?"

[CHUCKLE.]
"Me."

(Squint.)

[PATIENT GAZE.]

(Impatient squirm.)
"But.....I don't get it.
I don't GET it?"

[SMILE.]

"WHO ARE You?"

"Read My Word,
precious."

"Yeah, what about this part:

God said to Moses,
I AM WHO
I AM.
[Exodus 3:14]

Ya mean.....THIS PART?"

[NOD.]

"But......what about
that OTHER PART?"

[GENTLE SMILE.]
"Which Part,
My beloved?"

(Squirm.)
(Silence.)
"Ya know........
that OTHER part."

[SMILE.]
"Which Part
is that,
My beloved?"

(Silence.)
(Frown.)
"I dunno.
Forget about it."

[SMILE.]

(Squirm.)
"This is too complicated."
(Scratch scruffy head.)
"I'm goin' back to bed,
Lord.
(Yawn.)
'It's my morning off,
Ya know."

[SOLEMN NOD.]
[GENTLE SMILE.]

(Yawn.)
(Put cup of hot chocolate
in microwave.)
(Grab some Cherios
outta the box.)
(Trudge off to bed.)
