Immeasurably More – Ephesians 3:20-21

Keep on Asking

We all know it, but too often we need reminding that our God is the Lord Almighty. He can do anything, for nothing is impossible with God (Matt. 19:26 , Mark 10:27 , Luke 1:37). If He can do so much more and greater things than we can imagine, then He can certainly do so much more than the little things that we actually ask for. Our trouble is not that we ask for too much. If your dream is from God then there’s no such thing as too much or too big. In claiming that we are simply not being greedy and that we are “not worthy” of having God give us big answers, we keep out requests small. But the truth is that we don’t ask for big things because we don’t believe that God can or perhaps will answer us. Little prayers are safe, likely, and less likely to let us down if they (seem) to go unanswered. We all start out praying the bigger prayers but the weeks, months, and even years go by with no apparent indication that we’ve even been heard. We become disheartened and figure that God either can’t or won’t answer us and so we settle for far smaller dreams. There are, of course, times when our dreams are only ours and for our glory and so it is for our own good that God does not answer them. However, we should also remember that Scripture says, “Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4). This is a promise that if our focus is on God, He will place certain dreams and desires in our hearts and also see them fulfilled. He does this to display His work in our hearts, our lives, and in the world. He does this for His glory.

So if you’re holding on to a certain dream that doesn’t seem to be happening, examine your heart and your motivation, and then if you’re in the clear, wait and don’t give up. Scripture says, “So I say to you, ask (and keep on asking), and it will be given to you; seek (and keep on seeking), and you will find; knock (and keep on knocking), and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks (and keeps on asking), receives; and he who seeks (and keeps on seeking), finds; and to him who knocks (and keeps on knocking), it will be opened.” (Luke 11:9-10, Matthew 7:7-8 AMP). Don’t give up so easily. God will answer His way in His time. For, “Who is there among you who, when your son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” (Matt 7:9-11). Allow God to grow you in the waiting. The answer is on the way, so thank Him for it.

May we all pray, “Oh God, who is as great as You? You are the God who does miracles, You display Your power among the peoples (Psalm 77:13-14). May we never forget that You are Lord God Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. We know that with You, all things are possible (Matt. 19:26). Place Your desires in our hearts (Psalm 37:4) and strengthen us as we wait on You (Isaiah 40:31). Help us to cling to Your promises and the dreams that You give us. May we never set limits on what You can do. Work in us and through us for Your glory. Amen.”
