The selflessness of missionaries on the field is illustrated in the article “I Spent My Summer Vacation with Prostitutes” by John Kraemer.

The story of this brother inspired me to finally put this piece into writing, that which I had been contemplating for a long while, just gathering my thoughts on how to get my message across.

I also saw something similar in a story that was put in documentary form on the 700 Club recently, of some missionaries who put their lives on the line to go to a remote part of the world, an island, where the villagers were still naked and had barely any contact with others but themselves, these missionaries went without guns to protect themselves from attack after having heard of those who went before them who were killed instantly by these ones in cannibal fashion!

The story ends with, some deaths at first, the missionaries’ persistence, life changing experience for a native who was later killed, Who’s child took up evangelism works to the people and neighboring islands and A SAVING OF ENTIRE PEOPLE!

It is amazing how some of us find it easy to work for God whilst others give so many excuses for WHY they could/should not at the particular moment….wrong timing, people may laugh and embarrass, or worse still shun me …., I may be ostracized, may lose valuable ‘friends/family members’……and so on and so forth.

Working for God is nothing extraordinary like many seem to think; you do not have to have on your RESUME OF GOOD WORKS, Televangelist of great repute or organizer of large and extra ordinary crusades, even more so do you not need to be the pastor-in-charge of a congregation (Large or small), or be called the name MINISTER so and so, neither do you need to have all the Heavenly(?...Earthly, more like it) acronyms of BISHOP, DOCTOR, PROPHET, REVEREND….Almighty-On-Earth, before you are noted in the BOOK OF LIFE as an outstanding child of God who receives beautiful jewels in his crown daily or every second as the case may be in HEAVEN.

Missionaries of old did a lot of good works (and bad too!) because Christianity was used to carry away generations of people into slavery in far away Lands, a people who, today do not have a way of tracing their roots back and have had so much pain, bitterness and the stigma of hatred and prejudice thrust upon them.

Good deeds can be seen in the life of anyone who lives by principles and Earthly laws: I AM A GOOD PERSON!
Atheists, people in world religions of all sorts do wonderful works with all their hearts and worldly possessions
The difference is JESUS!

We really have to double up our efforts, those who are called by the name of JESUS, because the harvest is truly plenty but the laborers are so few.

Working for God takes availability and reliability

It takes faith in the one who sent you and who needs you, He wants you to be an available tool, ready whenever He says GO!

He wants a child who will be willing to forsake father, mother, sister brother and all worldly possessions and comfort, one with a willing heart to adapt to situations that he finds himself in disregarding all emotions and former prejudice(s), only ALWAYS saying, YES LORD!

God wants our hearts to remain how it was when we first said I DO to Him

David’s PLEA in Psalm 51-Restore unto me, the joy of my salvation and renew a right spirit within me:

Let humility be the watch word

Let trust-in-the-Lord be your motto

Let love and compassion for ALL people grow always in your heart

Let God’s word be a lamp always on your feet and a light on to your path

WHAT MORE, except to watch and pray!
