Thanks God for the Hats

Father Almighty, we give You thanks for hats;

For the hat the farmer wears to shield his sun-drenched face,
While he tills the ground that produces the food that is now in this place;

For the hat the truck driver wears as he transports the food,
So others may have something to eat even though he may not be in the driving mood;
For the hat that the chef wears while cooking with zeal,
As they anticipate the hungry faces looking forward to a good meal;

For the hat the server wears as we receive our dish,
And we quietly thank You that it is not fish!
And finally,
For all the hats everywhere that are now removed as we give you thanks for creating the seeds,
Which now provide for all our daily needs;

We humbly now bow our head,
As we give You thanks for our daily bread.

Note: This poem was written to give thanks for a meal at a spiritual retreat with youth. Eight youth participated in the prayer. Youth were paired up and each pair made hats to correspond to the lines in the poem.
