If I should see disaster coming,
But I told you, all was well---
In the interest of harmony,
Failed to sound a warning bell;
You would most surely not be happy
When foreseen trouble fell---
Would you not chide me for neglection,
If the truth I didn’t tell?

Should I speak “safety” when there’s danger,
Or shout “peace” when there is none,
Or say, “all is well” in troubled times,
Say “help is here” when it’s gone,
Spin a lie to bring you contentment,
When in fact you’re near undone---
It’s not my task to be consoling,
Though I might be pleasing some.

If I can see God’s Word gives warning,
I’m obliged to let you know;
If I can see confusion looming,
Clearly show which way to go.
The trumpet call must sound out clearly;
It must not in error blow,
But seek to give clear understanding,
So the saints, in wisdom grow.

May God equip me to be faithful
In performing all He says;
To be filled with joy in His service,
Giving glory, thanks and praise;
To have contentment in my spirit,
As I ponder all His ways;
To be rejoicing in His presence,
At the close of earthly days.
