The Word says: "Apart from Him you can do nothing"
So… How much can we do apart from Him?
I know people that work and strive to make a name for themselves, seeking their 15 minutes of fame, or their name in lights, or some sort of immortality by their accomplishments.
Sometimes we try to gain our identity by what we do, what we own, or who we know...our little “treasures”. But the Word talks abundantly about toiling for that which is not eternal, and about doing things in our own strength.
So, what is God asking you to do? Might be that gnawing little thought that comes to mind as you read this, but you are trying to bat it away like it is an irritating fly. Why? Because it is not grand enough, too simple… too small. He might be saying: Love your wife. Work less overtime and make it to your son's soccer game. Forgive your friend. Be honorable in your marriage. Be an employee with integrity.
It might be as simple as cleaning the garage, or doing the laundry, studying for a test instead of watching T.V. Or, he might be asking you to volunteer at a homeless center, or give to a family in need. But He is not asking you to do anything because it will bring you fame, for it won’t, but simply because he has asked you to. He does not have to tell us the “why” when he asks us to do something.
Sometimes He is asking us to STOP doing something. Stop worrying. Stop overindulging. Stop making excuses....Just allow you mind just ponder this for a moment. What is coming to mind?
The bottom line is this: Whatever He asks, we do. Pretty simple concept. Some things are seemingly small and easy to obey. Other things are larger and more difficult. His Holy Spirit enables us to accomplish all that He has asked us to do.
So every day we have a choice: we can “do our own thing” or we can do HIS thing. But this I know for sure: apart from Him, I can do NO-thing.
What is it God is asking of you?
