Waiting

Waiting. What am I waiting for? Wait a day, turns into two. Wait five more and there goes a week. Fifty two weeks and where's the year gone? Then the cycle starts over.

Have you ever really thought about that? The reasons why we wait. Something must be really important to cause someone in our society to even think about waiting.

Here in the U.S. it's a rare occasion for us to have to wait too long for something. If we're going to buy a new car and it isn't at the dealer's car lot, it's usually just a short time before the manufacturer has one going through the assembly line, just the way you ordered it. If there's six houses available for sale and you want one like the third one, except you want it with some minor variations, just be willing to wait for about three months and you'll have it. Brand new, just for you.

Why settle for less. Have it your way. It'll only be a short wait because you're next in line. Money can buy you anything you want. You won't have to wait long for it.

You can buy a husband or wife from another country. You can adopt a child if you have the money (which can be a good thing if there's a proper motive for it). You can even buy a date. If you have enough money you can hitch a ride into outer space.

What about the things money can't usually buy? Like your happiness? How about love? Money can't buy relationships. I mean the ones that are real and tight. Relationships that do life with you. They stay through the bad times as well as the good.

These necessities of life don't just happen overnight. They don't necessarily come just when you want them. Sometimes they don't come for a long time.

Sure, you can settle for something less. You may think you've got what you want, but when you're looking for the real thing you'll never be truly happy with less.

It's a lot of fun having friends that talk about you behind your back. If they were saying something good about you they'd tell you face to face. But you really had to become a part of that group of friends. You just had to be accepted so you kept at it until they let you in.

How about that spouse that says one thing to your face but to his coworkers you become the brunt of all the mean spirited jokes. Maybe he puts you down in front of your friends. Maybe he really didn't love you when you got married. What if you pushed the marriage button a little early before finding out that it wasn't love in your relationship but lust.

But I want to be happy. I need to be like everyone else. Until I am, I'll never be happy. I can't wait.

Well look around you. Is everyone else really happy? Have you done a poll? Did you live with everyone else for a year to find out if you still wanted to be like them? Do you really know everyone else or do they just look like they're happy from the outside?

The most valuable things in life take time to develop. All the precious stones and gems become valuable because of the wait. It took time for them to develop. It took a lot of outside pressure that squeezed all the impurities out of them. What's left is 100% pure. The real deal. Nothing phony. They've reached the place where they've become sought after. Highly desired.

It takes time for you and I to develop. Maturity isn't just a time thing. It's a time for growing up. It's a time for learning how to discern what's important and what's fake. What will last and what falls apart when just a little pressure is applied. It's something that's there when you're ready. You know your ready when you can hold up under whatever life throws at you.

We all develop physically, emotionally and spiritually at different times. Just because we use the law of averages, to determine, when someone should be adjusted to go to the next level, doesn't mean it's for you. Take your time. Make sure you're ready for the important things before embracing them. Make sure what you embrace is ready for you.

Waiting doesn't mean you're just putting things off. It means you're expecting them to become a part of you...when you're ready. Don't let the outside pressures push you into premature decisions. Don't be afraid to wait. You'll be glad you did.
