Prayer For the Lost and the Backslidden

Father God, right now I just call out to You, on behalf of all those who are lost and undone; and those who are backslidden. Dear merciful Savior, I ask that you send your Holy Spirit to convict them, and to draw them to You. I pray that You would pull back the curtain of their hearts and find true repentance and brokenness. Oh, Lord God, do a mighty work in them. Completely transform them to such a degree that they will absolutely hate and despise the things that they once loved. That they will love and cherish the things that they once detested. Let them die to themselves this morning, Father. Let them crucify their flesh, which is corrupt and vile before you. And let them put on the Lord Jesus Christ. Oh, that they may deny themselves and pick up their crosses and follow You, Lord. That they would live each and every day, each and every hour, and each and every moment with the single desire of pleasing You and bringing glory unto Your Holy name. Give them clean hands and pure hearts.

Father God, I pray for those who say they are christians and are not. They profess you with their mouths, but their deeds reveal that their hearts are far from you. They bear no good fruit. They not only tolerate sin (which you hate), but they embrace it. Lord, I ask that you send conviction upon them and that you would give them courage, for they fear men more than they fear You. They say within themselves, "if I stand up, if I go forward, if I call out to God for salvation...then everyone will know that I have been a fraud!" They care more about the opinions of men, dear Lord than they do about You. They are forgetting that nothing is hidden from Your eyes, oh God! Every thing that they have ever done; and every word that they have ever spoken; and every thought that they have ever had is naked and exposed before You, righteous Lord. It is before you that they will be judged and you already know that they are false! Their pitiful attempts at piety have been nothing but garbage in Your eyes, Father and a stench in Your nostrils...so much so, that You are even now ready to spew them out of Your mouth!

Lord God, I pray that You would crush them under the weight of their sin this morning. That you would open their eyes that they might see the blackness of their own hearts, that sin might become exceedingly sinful to them. Reveal to them Lord just how disgusting falsehood and lukewarmness are to you. Show them, Lord, how wicked and vile and depraved they really are! That they drink in iniquity like water and that your wrath abides upon them! They have served Satan and been slaves to sin up until now, dear God. They have forgotten You days without number! They have offended Your Holy Spirit! They have abused Your grace and trampled under foot the blood of Your precious son, Jesus Christ and they deserve the damnation of Hell!

I pray, Lord God, that You would give them a strong sense of eternity. A strong sense of Your imminent judgment. Lord, that no amount of food would satisfy their hunger; that no amount of drink would satisfy their thirst. Dear God, don't let them have a single minute of peaceful rest until they have made their calling and election sure with You. Until they have worked out their own soul's salvation with fear and trembling before You. I pray, Holy Savior that they would run to You as if Hell itself has opened up it's mouth to swallow them whole! Let them hear the roaring of the fire! Let them feel the heat! Let them smell the smoke! And let them hear the weeping and the wailing and the gnashing of teeth of them that are already there! Father, I ask these things in the name of Your precious son, Jesus Christ, before whom every knee will bow and every tongue confess, that He is LORD!!! Amen.
