Do you know what "sin" is considered to be the one most practiced by all people of all ethnic groups? According to several Bible commentaries lying is the most practiced sin of the many choices afforded to us each day.

Why do we lie?

What constitutes a lie?

Webster defines a lie thusly:

1 : "to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive"

I found no definition for a white lie, or a dirty truth, but just a lie.

Certainly the current political campaign for the presidency of our great country is marked by outright lies from both sides. This according to insiders on both sides who express shock at many of the ads, even though the ad has the approval of the candidate.

I always get laugh out of someone being charged with "Lying to Congress." Have you ever thought about this inane charge? One liar lying to another is the way I see it. People lie to their wife or husband, to the church, to the boss, the employee, the IRS, to God and the most tragic of all, themselves.

When someone lies to the bank to get a loan, this lie is called Bank Fraud. To lie in order to gain something of value is a sin and against the law. So why are the lies in a political contest passed off as nothing to be concerned about? A lie to a bank is considered a robbery to obtain something of value. A lie to the voters is given to obtain the vote, and we, ignoramuses that we be, do not take umbrage at this thievery that is designed to rob us of what should be near the very top of the list for freedom loving people; our VOTE. To steal our vote denigrates the shed blood of every patriot who made the supreme sacrifice to buy for us the right to vote. Why do we stand for such outrageous lies as are offered as proof that we should vote for the biggest liar?

Mr. McCain and Mr. Obama each assert that they are Christians. I have no way of seeing their heart. If it 'is true as the Bible says that we can ascertain the genuineness of a person’s profession by their actions, then all I have to say is, WOW. Paul gives a bit of instruction for those who lived in his time, in the midst of a world full of liars. They were expected to be different according to Colossians 3:9,

"Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;"

We who name Christ as savior are to cut lying out of our practice. I don't think the campaign lying will determine whether or not someone votes for either man, because sin just doesn’t bother folks, even so called evangelicals very much anymore. But then, there is God to consider.
