Chattering, happy, childhood voices
Echo down the corridors of time,
Always, one of life’s soothing noises,
Chimes of blessed comfort to my mind.

Often in thought I wander back there
To those pleasant days of yester year,
Life went by without a seeming care,
Everyone I loved was near and dear.

Maybe our lives were more simple then?
People had more time to love and care?
Family---the most important thing?
It seemed, everyone had time to spare!

Mealtime never was a rushed affair;
Conversation was the centre piece;
We all had a point of view to share;
All ate and drank and talked at their ease.

Perhaps there, the poet in me was born!
Table talk was fertile food for thought,
Where pensive rhyme and verse took form,
A workshop where future words were wrought.

I still love meal-time conversation,
Family times where all have their say,
A cozy zone of relaxation---
Safe haven from daily life’s affray.
