Larry Lilly's Letter Thursday September 11, 2008

I often write about the "good old days" yet I know of nothing that has changed the course of an entire civilization as fast and dramatically as the aftermath of events on today's date, seven short years ago. Most media regardless of political leaning will at least say something about 9/11.

Monuments will be unveiled, tributes will be offered, and most people will recall the precise moment and place they found out about the attack on our land and ideology, encompassing the idea of Western Civilization in toto.

From that day on the cry of an enfeebled society has been, "Keep us safe, by whatever means." And this cry has been responded to by the largest encroachment on personal freedom in the history of the nation with more losses to follow.

I don't know how you feel, but when I travel I get a little more than irritated by newly anointed Federal Employees who a few short hours ago were minimum wage hourly workers rooting through my computer, with the authority to seize and hold said computer for months while browsing through the files searching for whatever they find with no cause. (My computer is loaded with gospel info, so perhaps they will be moved to faith). I am thankful that due to being a man I do not wear a bra as several women have been subjected to humiliating strip searches due to metal supporters designed to give stability to their God given endowments.

I watched in wonder in the Manchester, NH airport as nice lady well along in years was subjected to the "wand" and then herded into a glass enclosure while another lady repeatedly ran a wand over the lady's ankle. The poor elderly woman had to, with much embarrassment, remove her panty hose, upon which another very important lady ran yet another wand over the aged ones ankle. At this point those of us who were gawking at this Russian exercise being conducted in an American airport could faintly hear the little old lady saying to the Wonder Wander, "Do you know what I would like to do with your wand?" (This statement has been sanitized).

The elderly lady has a surgically implanted metal ankle. Scars on the ankle, visible outside the glass enclosure suggested as much, and further that the lady had once been a natural blonde, with light blue eyes and skin as white as fresh milk, and that further she was trying to get the busy agent of Homeland Security to take the time to read her "Papers" which had been stamped by yet another Homeland Security agent at the home office stating that yes, said lady did have an ankle implant, while all the while the searcher for Moslem terrorists was so impressed with herself that she failed to notice her boss standing behind her with furious smoke starting to come out of his ears. The victim of this security check was, shall we say, steaming.

I thought to myself, "What a strange way to pay homage to the men, women and children victims of 9/11." To say nothing of the courage of so many demonstrated unto their death fighting back.

And then I followed a man who had a large Bible in his computer case at Philly. The official asked, "What is this?" "It's my Bible." "Please step over here." And we tolerate this.
