"Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of understanding." (Proverbs 9:6)
"Simple" can mean plain and uncomplicated and it can also mean "stupid" or naive. In the case of this proverb the meaning is closer to naïve. This proverb is a warning to the naïve, those without understanding, who wander through life giving little thought to their direction. You do not have to be naïve; you can leave those ways by gaining understanding. You gain understanding by learning, by thinking, by applying yourself to know what is going on in your life and times. Such thoughtful consideration will reward you with a better life, as the proverb says, you will live. There is danger in being naïve, danger that you will be an accomplice in your own trouble. There is no reason to make yourself a victim of life, gain understanding and live.
