Said Robert, as he walked toward his gallows, as he looked upon his cross, “I was once a man, celebrated. I walked where I would, talked to whom I may. Now I stand as a silent witness. My mouth is shut up, my voice is soft. The dogs compass me roundabout, they shall not see me tremble, my tears will not quench their thirst. There was once a time when I cast out their demons, I comforted their sick. Now they look on me with disgust they stare at me with hatred as if I persecuted them. I only became their enemy because I told them the truth, it can only be that the truth was against them. I do not recant the truth, I stand in front of liars. I am truthful, I am Christian, I preach of a savior. Now I have become their tormentor, my truth is grievous to them, for they do not wish to be saved. I once cast out their sins now I am cast out. I am possessed though only with the Spirit of Truth. Now, to them, I am legion, the soul of God alone possesses my heart. I am Legion for I have many guardians, many who will protect my soul.”
